Color the Rainbow

I may have gotten a little over confident on this one. I thought it would be extremely simple to finish in just a couple of days. Instead it took me around 2 weeks.

Most of the delay was my fault. I was studying for an exam and had to put cross stitching to the side for a couple weeks. The exam was out of town so while I was away I also wasn’t working on this.

Once I got back I realized just how close to deadline I was. I’ve been working frantically through my last weekend before it needed to be sent trying to finish. I even worked on it while walking on the treadmill (didn’t go the greatest, but got me just a little closer).

I did finish late Sunday night getting everything assembled, photographed, and in the mail. This card is staying in town and actually not going all that far. I’m sure it will have a journey around town to get to its final destination though.

This card is for a cousin of mine. When I saw this pattern it made me think of her. She is a teacher, but I think it was more the bright colors that drew me in.

I wanted those colors to really stand out so I chose a grey paper as my frame. I’m still not great at getting the work stretched correctly while mounting (you’ll notice it looks a little bubbled) though I did make many more attempts with this one.

I used my Cricut to cut the frame and write Happy Birthday! along the bottom. Overall I think this card turned out quite nice.

Adding Some Extra Sparkle

This is my second dive into the world of glitter glue as a way to embellish cards. It’s still something new, but I am looking for different cards that could you an extra something to take them from being more flat to more interesting. You can see all of my available wallpaper cards here.

dark blue with green-blue glitter swirls I have a card from this same paper that is not decorated. I want to keep each card unique, even though the pattern would be slightly different on both cards I felt this needed something more to really stand out from the other one.

Unlike many card makers, I don’t want to make the same card again and again. I want each card to be unique in its own way. I hope that this approach appeals to people because it means that no 2 cards from me are alike so you don’t have to worry about sending the same card twice.

This card might be a little on repeat since the paper comes in multiple colors with the same silver dollar seashell on it. I can cut them different ways to get the seashells in different patterns, but overall they are fairly similar in terms of look. This one has a gold glitter inlay that I added.

abstract painted look with added glitter and paintThe extremely large pack of glitter glue I purchased also came with some solid colored glue. At least I assume it’s still glue. Unlike paint it dries mounded to give a more 3D effect. All of the tubes come in what looks more pastel like, but dries brighter, it’s a good alternate if you don’t want everything to be sparkly.

These cards make a nice addition to my wallpaper card offerings.

90th Birthday

There are only 2 living grandparents left in our family. They are my husband’s paternal side. On May 2nd his grandfather turned 90 years old! We went to Des Moines, IA that weekend to celebrate with him.

The night before I did a mad rush to make a card. It went over really well since they love art. Something handmade is different than the store bought cards. Apparently I did well enough that at first they thought it was purchased and were impressed it was so on the mark.

I chose green paper since it’s (finally) spring. And my paint options at home are limited, so I chose a yellow because it would be bright enough to stand off the green. Not on purpose, but a bit John Deere nonetheless.

How it was made:

The letters were created in using the writing feature of the Cricut. The barn and tractor were cut using the Cricut as well. These are the gold adhesive, so they are shiny and stick to the paper easily.

Apples, Sharpies, and Glitter Glue

I finally broke down and bought the 50 pack of glitter glue at Sam’s. There are so many possibilities now! For these cards I also broke out the Cricut (affiliate) again. It’s been collecting dust the last few weeks.

As I was going through all of my wallpaper cards and cataloging them I found two with a single apple on them. At the time I didn’t see a reason to do anything extra and found them artistic in their own way. With my new crafting tools I decided to spice up these cards.

With the help of a friend I started looking for sayings involving apples. Unfortunately many are quite long. I did find one to use. The other card has

become a Get Well card because of the saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” I guess it will take someone with the right type of humor to accept receiving the card as something that is not some underhanded jibe.

So there you have it, the new cards for the month of March!

Glitter Glue and Wallpaper

I went back to the basics this month for cards. My inventory of wallpaper cards was starting to run a little low, so I went on a card making frenzy and cranked out 15 of them.

wallpaper cards_0218_054Although I never used to embellish these cards, I have started to. With paint and glitter glue to start, who knows what will come next. With the added time and materials going into these cards I am charging a little more for them. But I will always try to have a good selection of “originals” to choose from.

I use these kinds of cards all the time to send a little note to friends or more commonly, thank you notes. They aren’t very large, and add something even more personal than your typical handwritten note.

wallpaper cards_0218_056If you enjoy writing and sending handmade cards let me know! My post Wallpaper Cards has a running gallery of everything currently in inventory. If I ever branch out and make other cards not primarily with wallpaper I guess those will get a post as well. For right now though, those cards are made on an as needed basis. I don’t like making the same card over and over again, so even though some of these cards may be similar, no two are alike.
